Two studies from photographs of film stars Walter Matthau and Marilyn Monroe. I still have the original photograph cut from a newspapaer that I used for Walter, which is seen below. I was fairly pleased with the result. However, the Marilyn drawing is a bit of a disaster but it always serves to remind me how difficult it is to capture beauty. The original image comes from the famous billowing white dress scene in "The Seven Year Itch", again placed below.

A pair of pictures of two famous scientists, Dmitri Mendeleev and Ernest Rutherford (sadly no relation). These pictures were drawing exercises I did in the late 1980's using photos from an encyclopedia. The photos had a particular, old, grainy quality which worked with the style of drawing. The pictures are done in pencil.
